What a Great Week!

I love summer SO MUCH. It really makes me question my judgement in my choice of where I live. On Monday, before they went home, Grandma came with Brooklyn and I on her field trip. We went to the park for lunch, Baskin Robbins for a treat, and then off to the library. We've spend the greater part of the rest of our week enjoying the water in the backyard and playing at the park.

Real Time

My house is a disaster. I had a terrible day. Nothing specific, just generally lousy. Lots of little things went wrong and I'm feeling particularly teary. I've polished off two bowls of my favorite ice cream while I catch up on my blog. I haven't been 'caught up' in quite some time. I'm wondering what happens what I get there...
We got some family shots last weekend at Jack's baby blessing. Guess in all the excitement, I forgot to get some cute shots of just cute little Jack. It was fun to have Grandma and Grandpa in from out of town; we appreciated the support from Jake's friends from work and our neighbors, and of course, our friends from church. I have cute pics with G and G, but the ones of my family aren't so great. A friend took some pics too...hopefully I like those better.

Building A Treehouse

Grandpa M. came out last weekend for Jack's baby blessing; and helped start building our tree house.

Enjoying the First Weeks of SUMMER

Yup, it's only May.
Yup, it's only 68 degrees, tops.
Yup, my kids are swimming. They're in training for the Polar Plunge 2011.
Where did these kids come from? How did I get kids that are so native to Wisconsin and cold?

Happy 3rd Birthday Sadie!

Lucky Me

We have had a glorious, wonderful, warm May. Every once in awhile, this means that everyone gets a little nap. Brooklyn was at school, everyone else was asleep...the sweet sound of silence.

Jack -- 3 months

Cozy Reads

The girls found a nice spot for reading inside my cedar chest...

Childrens' Museum

On our last trip to Chicago, we had two good finds. One, awesome barbeque. Check out Smoque...mmmm...brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, ribs...
Oh, and we went to the Childrens' Museum too. Go figure, my kids liked the vet clinic area (I wanted to be a vet until I was in 5th grade and realized that I would have to do more than play with animals)

My Little Man -- Almost 3 Months

Hello Ladies, my name is Handsome.

Cousins

We had a fun visit from our cousins...traveled in front the frigid northlands. (Yeah, believe it or not, there are places in this country even colder than Milwaukee that are populated). We sure miss them, but the cousins had fun seeing each other. By the way, don't worry. That fence around the big black globe is for keeping critters out, not kids, I'm sure.

Jack -- 2 1/2 months

The Dangers of Hoodies

I think this isn't a good thing, somewhere is all those parenting books gathering dust on my shelves.

Biking

Sadie got a new bike for the grand prize for potty training. Too bad that was like, two months ago...and tonight I had to put her in a pull-up, again. She's earning stickers towards her first car. We're suckers. Whaddya do when you're done potty training and reminding and giving praise and prizes, but your kid isn't? Bummer.

Brooklyn's Recital

Brooklyn has gone to a little dance class for the past two years. Admittedly, the past few months it has been so darn hard to get her there. I wanted her to feel accomplished and finish something. Her recital was adorable. She was beautiful. She LOVES the stage, the attention, the bright lights. Center of attention!

Jack Baby -- 9 Weeks

So stinkin' cute.
It's so weird. I remember that with ALL of my other kids, I had these mixed feelings...I wanted them to stay little, but at the same time, I was counting down until the next "stage" (sure that it would be easier). Now, I know better. Each stage is better, each stage is worse. I wish I could keep him little. He doesn't look like a newborn anymore. So sad. I love little newborn cries. I love red, squishy newborn faces. I love how his legs and his entire body so naturally roll into a ball. I love to smell him. I wish I could record how he feels in my arms like I can take a picture.

More Updates

During General Conference (four 2-hour long meetings are broadcast on TV for our church leaders to address the church as a whole) Jake wanted to keep the kids busy. On Sunday the kids did ALL of their puzzles.
Bonus: Yes Jack, you can use this as blackmail one day.

My New-found Old Friend

I cringe every time I have to pay for this stuff. Seems a bit overpriced. But, when Sadie was born and I pulled out Brooklyn's hand-me-downs, only to find that old spit up stains (that had been washed before storage) had yellowed and re-appeared...this stuff got 'em out.
Two times in the past month, Jake has left a pen in his pocket through the wash. I should catch it, but seriously? I do 10+ loads of laundry a week. It just doesn't happen.
On a whim, I decided to try some Oxiclean (on two loads that had been washed and dried). The two scoops removed IT ALL!

Mom Jeans -- Giving In

So, it just so happens that every time I open my closet, I think "gee, the selection here is rather bland. I so need to go shopping and get something cute...I'm really into a rut with this T-shirt thing". Yeah, truthfully, most of my wardrobe that I wear consists of inexpensive T's from Old Navy, Gap, and Target. That's not a bad thing, it's just not incredibly fun or hip. Although, I had a realization the other day when I pulled off my T-shirt; it had dirt, grass stains, Cheetos, grease, and blood stains. Yes, all from that day alone. No, none of the stains were caused my me. Guess there's a reason I'm not shopping at Ann Taylor. I would be much less nice if my kids were ruining nice clothes.
I also have given into my generation's version of mom jeans. I have been justifying to myself (for a number of years now) that indeed, the boot cut, low-rise style jeans that I have been wearing since high school are still "in"(that's not that long ago, right? I mean, they still sell them in stores). You know, they aren't Mom jeans (tapered leg, high waist etc). Um, yeah, they are. A new generation of Mom jeans...for me, it's perfectly logical and somewhat fashionable. I wouldn't wear skinny jeans unless my mom body was abducted by aliens and replaced with my former skinny high school self.
Here's one to dressing like a Mom...

Dying Easter Eggs

Flabbergast

Sadie was finally potty-trained! We celebrated at Flabbergast (an indoor play area with slides and inflatables)

Easter Craft -- Preschool

Tyler and some friends do a co-op preschool. The week after Easter it was my turn to play teacher. We made some delicous edible nests.
