Pay It Forward

So, here's how it works-the first 3 people to leave a comment on this post will receive, at some point during the year, a handmade gift from me. What it will be and when it will arrive is a total surprise!
The catch is that you must participate as well. Before you leave your comment, write up a pay it forward post on your blog to keep the fun going (or be lazy and copy and paste like I did). Maybe this will be an incentive to you "blog lurkers" (blurkers) to setup your own blog because your comments will NOT count. Then come back, let me know you're going to play and sit back and anticipate the arrival of your gift! Remember that only the first 3 comments will receive a gift from me, so be quick!

Dining Deal

Use the coupon code "DINE" at checkout at www.restaurant.com and receive a $25 gift certificate to certain restaurants for only $2 each. There are restictions; most require at least a $35 purchase, but it's still a great deal.

25 Random Things

This tag is running rampant...it took me awhile to come up with that many things about myself, so pathetic. Here's my 25, in no particular order.
1. I love pens -- Free pens are one of the best parts of staying in hotels, visiting new places, or going to trade shows. I have a ready supply dating back to my early teens...I'm so weird.
2. I love cooking, but hate deciding what to make for dinner. It takes me at least an hour to cook Rachel Ray's 30 minute meals. I need a staff that does more than pull on my legs and cry.
3. I love my kids, and kids in general. My kids are my life and I LOVE IT. Every stage is my favorite stage, even when it's really hard to get though. I'm going to cry next year when Brooklyn goes to "junior kindergarten"
4. I couldn't live without dark chocolate and Diet Coke. Although I always love my kids, I still need a way to cope.
5. I love to read. I've found through book clubs that I can enjoy reading a wide variety of books and find some enjoyment in all of them (except Sci-Fi, not so much, except "Ender's Game"
6. I will eat almost anything. I'm not a picky eater, in fact, as an adult I've learned to like a lot of things that I didn't like/hadn't tried earlier in life (mushrooms, curry, buffalo sauce, authentic Mexican food)
7. I am super organized. I like to make lists. I like to make files. A place for everything and everything in it's place. Again, like with the pens, here I border on paranoia.
8. Regarding to do lists, I like to make them AFTER I've done the tasks, just so I can cross off a few things and feel like my day was productive.
9. I HATE WINTER IN WISCONSIN. 'Nuf said there.
10. I wish I used my business degree more often. I feel like my brains are leaking out of my ears or were lost somewhere in the process of childbirth. I plan on going to law school once the kids are in school.
11. As a mom, I am a do-er, not a play-er. I like to take my kids places and show them new things. I like craft projects and putting together puzzles. I like games. I love dancing and chasing and going for walks. I just am not good at playing with dolls or trucks.
12. I wish that I were better at sewing, knitting, and gardening
13. I love cleanliness, and find the process of cleaning mostly rewarding (with the exception of laundry, which I despise, except folding is an excuse to watch TV)
14. I am pretty social. I like to feel like I have friends and somewhere to be and something to do. If I don't get out and spend time with friends, I get super depressed.
15. I enjoy politics and business. I love to talk to people who share my views, and love to hear from those who completely are wrong.
16. I don't do mornings. I'm not happy to wake up to my kids. I just need time to wake up before I'm ready to go, go, go. Give me some time to exercise, then a bowl of cereal, then I'm happy to run.
17. I have never been happy with my weight. There's always something that I want to lose.
18. I love the outdoors...hiking, biking, camping, fishing, climbing, rapelling, boating. I'd like to spend more time there and learn more new things.
19. I'm not into chick flicks. They are predictable by nature and I'm just not entertained by them like I used to be.
20. I live in a very old house. She's almost 80 years old. I have learned what is meant by a house that is described as having "character". It means lots of upkeep and work.
21. I just turned 30 this year and last week bought my first "age-defying" makeup (it was free at Walgreens). I was skeptical, I don't feel old, but it did wonders for those dark circles under my eyes.
22. I don't do puke. I'm very nurturing with my kids and don't mind taking care of them when they're sick. I dread the stomach flu and hate the clean-up and everything that comes with it.
23. I'm incredibly cheap. I love to shop, but hate to spend money. I feel awesome when I find a "good deal". Yup, clipping coupons is for me...I don't buy anything online before I compare several sites and check "retailmenot.com"
24. I'm an absolute perfectionist. It's prevented me earlier in life from learning new things, because I expect to to be super star the first time I try something new and I'm not great at that process of practicing.
25. I am very grateful. I have a pretty darn good life. I'm blessed with the gospel, great health, a loving family and wonderful friends. Things are tough with the economy right now and it's heart-wrenching to see others hurt. I've truly felt the Lord has blessed us and helped us out in that regard.

Can I Start Over?

I'm having one of those days that I just wish I could go to bed early, like now, in the middle of the afternoon. This morning, I found that a beautiful orange crayon had made it all the way though a wash cycle (yup, dryer too) and dyed an entire load of laundry orange. Lucky for me, I wash my clothes separately. However, Jake and the kids would miss the clothes if they had to be thrown away. So, I googled "crayon stains from dryer" and found some expensive concoction with Tide, Borax, Oxiclean, Shout, vinegar...all in quadruple doses. I think someone just tried dumping every stain-removing product that they could buy into a load and it happened to take out the crayon. We'll see what happens...we're soaking (and I still have to use my Magic Erasers to clean out the orange dryer) Ack! Kids are so expensive. I didn't have any of those laundry products...$20+ later, I guess its cheaper than replacing clothes.
Ty has it out for me today. Before he went down for a nap, he pulled off his stinky diaper and made a huge mess. I got him cleaned up and took him up to naptime, only to see that he has completely destroyed his blinds. He plays with them in the morning to see if it's time to wake up yet (he consistently decides it's "time" at 5:30am). Grrrr...good thing for my kids that Jake doesn't have school tonight, otherwise, we'd all be in trouble!

"This Is the One" Recipe--It works if you ever need to get out crayon from clothes!
2 Maximum load scoops of liquid Tide
1 Cup of Mule 20 Borax (powder)
1 Cup of Liquid Shout
2 scoops of OxyClean
1 Cup of White Vinegar

A Few More....

Fall Pictures

Jenni did these photos a few months ago, but I wanted to post some of them to show off these cute kiddos.
