Funny Moment

My kids have these funny moments. It's hard to take them seriously and not laugh while it's happening.

So, here goes:

We were driving in the car and Ty started talking about his future family. He related to us that when he grows up, he's going to have 6 people in his family. He is going to have 4 kids, consisting of 2 boys and 2 girls. He is going to name them Brooklyn, Tyler, Sadie, and Jackson.

At this point, it was more than my beautiful type A Brooklyn could handle. She kept insisting that it wasn't fair that he was choosing the name of his kids without asking his wife. She was very upset that it wasn't "fair" for him to choose without his wife, and it would be impossible to choose names without her.

Ty countered, "she gets to born the babies, so I get to name the babies".

Brooklyn pointed out that when you "born a baby" the mom has to get a big shot and it really hurts. It wouldn't be fair if she had to get a big shot and didn't get to name the baby.

Ty changed his argument. His wife gets to spend more time with the kids, because he'll have to go to work, so he gets to name the babies. At this point, Brooklyn again talked about how unfair it was and that surely his wife would want to name the babies...and on and on and on. Ty refused to cave and finally told Brooklyn that he would name his children, and that his wife could choose whether or not they would be Brewers fans.

Still miffed, Brooklyn angrily told him, "well, you better tell your wife all of this after you get married; cuz otherwise, it's going to take a long time to find someone who wants to marry you!"

Ty, undaunted, sat quietly and asked a few minutes later, "Mom, do you think Eliza is still a Brewers fan?" (Eliza is a dear friend/crush that moved away at the beginning of the summer)

The hardest part of this whole thing was that I wanted to die laughing. The entirety of the logic isn't there, an understanding of life isn't there; but both of them were SO UPSET and serious about the discussion. It's a balancing act to say "yes, Brooklyn, you're right. He probably won't grow up and have four kids, and name them Brooklyn, Ty, Sadie and Jack"; while at the same time just validating what Tyler is saying, not crushing him, and relishing the fact that he likes our little family enough to want to replicate it.
