Butterin' Both Sides of the Bread

So, Sadie went to the GI (gastrointestinal) clinic today. Again, our main concern is the lack of growth and weight gain; as well as developmental delays with gross motor skills. For right now, we're just starting with the basics. That being, adding more calories to what she is already eating. She's not a super huge eater, so we struggle. But I literally had a dietician telling me to add butter and canola oil to her baby food; don't have her eat food like cereal for finger foods (avocado and cheese are more bang for the bite); and have her eat Carnation Instant Breakfast with whole milk rather than formula. I guess the thought is right now, with the dietcian and the GI specialist, is to get her eating more calories and see if we can get her to gain weight. If not, I guess we may have to look at other issues. Until then, the dietcian recommends any and all high-calorie foods, including pudding, mac n cheese, ice cream...are you kidding. If I could pack whatever Sadie has in a bottle; I'd be a millionaire. When was the last time you went the doctor and were told that you needed to eat more fat; the more the better? Where did I go wrong that my kid went right? I smell that stuff and it goes to my hips...SO, I am disappointed that we STILL don't have "answers" persay. But, the GI specialist said it is hard to distingish exactly what is going on in a baby with gross motor delays and eating problems. Which one causes which? How are they related? Hard to say. Good news. When we went to the physical therapist today (we haven't been for 3 weeks) she noticed differences. Yea!

Funny, Funny Kids

So, I spoiled this for anyone at book club tonight...but my kids are so funny. We had quite a day.

First, Brooklyn. A few days ago she saw Jake take a quarter out of my purse to "pay" Brooklyn for doing her "chores". I gave him a bad time about it because it was from my emergency mommy treat fund; I NEVER carry cash. We went back and forth with some teasing and I didn't think anything of it. Then today, returning home from visiting teaching, Brooklyn says; "Mommy, do you know why Daddy has to work so many days?"...Hmmm, what do you think? "Mommy, he has to make lots of money for you to spend because when you were naughty Daddy took away your money and gave it to me for doing my jobs". Oh wow, please don't repeat that kind of stuff.

Then, there's my Ty. We bought new sandals today. Emphasis on SAND. Shortly after, we went to the park. Ty stopped dead in his tracks as he walked onto the sand in the playground. He was stunned as he felt the sand on his toes. He just looked helplessly up at Jake and I and said, "stuck". It took him awhile to get used to the idea of SANDals.

Update on Sadie

Just wanted to let everyone know that yesterday Sadie was seen at the Child Development Clinic at our Children's Hospital. The doctors are there to evaluate all areas of development, including speech, mental, and physical. It can be up to a 9-month wait, just to get in. We were able to get in after 3 months. The doctor was very informative and helpful and completed a physical exam as well as some other developmental stuff. He feels like Sadie is 100% normal brain functioning wise. He thinks that she could mentally do the things she is lacking (crawling, pulling herself up, walking etc) but that her little body is holding her back. He thinks that something is going on with metabolism/digestion that she is still so small. (She's still just over 14 lbs.) We are starting to gain weight, after switching to formula, but it seems something else is still going on. She has an appointment with GI next week; the doctor in the developmental clinic believes they will be very helpful in identifying why she isn't gaining weight and how to get her to do it. After she gains the weight, he feels that she will catch up on her own. I guess that's all good news, but still frustrating too!
Thanks for your love, support, and prayers!

Silly Tyler

My son is driving me nuts. We went to the park today after I picked him up from Chaplins'(he went there while the other two came with me to the doctor, thanks Linda!) He wouldn't get out of the van without his Cars. I dragged him, kicking and screaming, several times to the play area. (What a mean mom!) He would just go back to the van, lie on the pavement, and cry. "Chick, King, Chick, King..." I tried time out with Chick and King in the van...that just made him more mad. So, I did what any good mom would do and I gave in. But, I only let him pick one. He chose Chick. I had fought letting him bring a toy because I have three kids, and that's enough for me to keep track of. I can't keep track of die-cast cars too. Well, Chick suffered the same fate as Lighting McQueen1, Lightning McQueen2, and Lightning McQueen3. He was lost (or stolen). Brooklyn and Tyler both cried all the way home...they didn't get why someone had taken Chick and wouldn't call me to give it back. Lesson learned...wait, probably not.
Good thing he's still super cute. We're recovering from being sick (and spoiled). He had a double ear infection last week and got the royal treatment (Brooklyn got in trouble for looking at him, he slept with Mom in her big bed while Dad slept on the couch, he got everything he wanted...) Anyway, while he was sick, I was up in the middle of the night with him trying to cool off a fever of 104 plus and get him back to sleep. He was really out of it and was pretty much lethargic. I was trying to calm him by singing "Old MacDonald" (his favorite). I knew Ty was still Ty and we weren't headed to the ER when I was singing about Old MacDonald's pig and said "oink, oink". I heard Ty quietly insist, "no oink oink" and he snorted to make sure I had the animal noise right. He was also quick to tell me what animal/object he wanted to sing about next (Old MacDonald is pretty sophisicated in Ty's world, and on his farm he has a racecar, an airplane, a train...)

HELP!

Any suggestions for where to go or how to make my blog cuter? Can I use photoshop, publisher? Help!
